Work

Harbour Cruises

Harbour Cruises has been around for decades in Vancouver, but their brand identity was inconsistent. I cleaned up their logo, and created a system of logos that they could use for different applications. Then, I did a full brand identity refresh that extended across all their marketing channels: digital, social, and print.

Logo

Harbour Cruises had so many different designs of their logo, with different colours and font for each. They had one consistent element, however: the icon of the lion inside the captain’s wheel. I kept this icon, but then typeset the lettering. I designed one simple standard logo to use across their platforms, and then created different layouts of it so that it could be used in different applications, but still kept the integrity of the logo intact.

I also wanted to be able to use the icon by itself, because it was, well, iconic. It can stand alone in certain applications.

Typography

Harbour Cruises needed typography that was rooted in tradition (it’s been around since 1908!) but still felt modern. Because of it’s unique product offerings, I wanted something that also felt unique and special.

I chose Domaine Display Medium as the H1 & H2 typeface, and then Geist for all other levels of typography. Geist’s almost grotesque sans serif letterforms complemented the rolling and undulating shapes of Domaine Display beautifully.

Colour Palette

I wanted to make the primary palette inspired by the colour of the logo. But then be supported by colours that would remind you of the beauty and scenery of Vancouver’s inner harbour.
